Fun Fact: If you break the word worship into two words, it becomes worth-ship. Meaning, you’re placing a high value on someone or something. You’re acknowledging someone or something in all things, and you’re ascribing credit of all things to someone greater than you. When you get the chance, listen to Dr. Myles Munroe’s sermon on worship. Your life would be completely transformed.
As Christians, we should aspire to worship God. Worship means to surrender; to be intimate with the one who created you. Sometimes, we go through experiences because God wants to reintroduce himself to us through worship. It is newness; not sameness. God is not interested in us or the songs that we sing if it is not to Him. Sometimes, we get so caught up in the songs or the worship leaders so much so that we forget who it is supposed to be directed to. Worship is a time of reflection, to see beyond the creation to the creator. Dr. Myles Munroe said that when the creation becomes more important than the creator, the result is misplaced worship. When your job, business, social media, influence, time, energy, creativity, relationships, friendships, become more important than God, you’ve lost sight of what we’ve been sent to this earth to do.
That’s why I love this song by Planet Shakers, “Made For Worship.” A part of the lyrics says, “I abandon, every distraction, my attention is set on You. My devotion, Jesus my portion, my affection is set on You.” Even as I write this, I reflect on the times my worship has been misplaced, and I repent for those moments. For me, worship has always given me a sense of peace and hope. It has strengthened my faith in God and it has taught me daily how to stop looking inward for the answers but outward unto God.
These are some of the songs I listen to when I make reverence to God Almighty. I hope you add this to your playlist, and I hope it inspires you to seek after the one who created everything.
